Go Waste Free for Lunch Today

Waste Free Lunch Kit
Waste Free Lunch Kit
Ever wonder how much money you spend on plastic tupperware containers and ziplock bags in a year?Is it tiring looking for tops to these containers as they seem to go missing like socks in the laundry? Bento type containers for your child's lunch are a great solution that will help the SLRD reach our goal of zero waste and also help reduce costs and frustration in your house. If a typical box of ziplock bags costs 3$ and say you use 20 boxes a year that will cost 60$. Usually reusable containers for snacks and lunches cost around 5$, so if you buy two or three and lose them two times in a year that will be a minimum cost of about 30$ a year.
So a reusable container that removes the need for any different lids, that will go in the dishwasher each day or be washed by hand is a great solution. There are many different varieties available and while they may cost about $15-30$, there will be no waste from lunches and you will not have to spend any more money on lost lids and new boxes of ziplock bags.

Waste free classroom competitions are coming to schools within the SLRD as a part of our Earth Day Awareness Campaign , so stay tuned as we let you know when your school will be audited as we work together on the goal to zero waste. We will audit garbage in each class on one day and then again the week before earth day to see who was able to reduce the most waste. The classes that win will earn cool prizes!
