More Zero Waste Learning and our First Garbage Free Lunch Results!

This past week was National Waste Reduction Week so it was an extra important week to be learning about Zero Waste and how to reduce the amount of garbage we produce. I visited two classes at Myrtle Philip Elementary School in Whistler, Mr. Smith's and Ms. Smart's.  These students were excellent "re-designers" when it came to finding ways to reduce the amount of waste produced by our favourite treats to bring to school for snacks or lunch.  I also visited two classes at Stawamus Elementary School in Squamish, Ms. Kubin's class and Ms. Hain's class.  These students were very keen to learn new ways to reduce waste and they all had some excellent ideas to contribute.

Ms. Allen's class from Spring Creek Elementary School in Whistler are the first class in the region to have completed their Garbage Free Lunch Challenge.  And the good news is that they saw a real reduction in their waste. All of the results will be posted soon!  Way to go Ms. Allen's class, you are setting a great example for the rest of the students in the region.
